About this Markdown cheatsheet

Each row includes the element name, the raw Markdown syntax, and the rendered HTML output so you can see exactly what it produces. Click any row to copy the Markdown syntax to your clipboard.
What is Markdown?
Markdown is a lightweight markup language for writing formatted text using plain-text syntax. It's the default format for README files on GitHub, documentation sites, static-site generators (Jekyll, Hugo, Eleventy), note-taking apps (Obsidian, Notion), and many forums and chat platforms. The syntax is designed to be readable as plain text and easily converted to HTML.
How to use this cheatsheet

- Or pick a Category from the dropdown to narrow the list.

Frequently asked questions
Which Markdown flavor does this cover? The reference targets CommonMark plus the widely supported GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM) extensions: tables, task lists, strikethrough, and fenced code blocks. A few features (footnotes, definition lists) are noted as extended syntax.
Does the rendered output use my actual Markdown renderer? The rendered cells show static HTML representative of how a standard renderer would display the syntax. Minor styling differences across platforms are normal.
Can I copy a single example? Yes — click any row and the Markdown source from that row is copied to your clipboard.
